Tourist Traps

Tourist Traps

There are so many tourist traps out there and things that you should watch out for, but let me tell you which ones you should partake in.

1. Champagne at the top off the Eiffel Tower

It seems hokey, but I'm here to tell you that drinking champagne at the otp of the Eiffel Tower is a novelty that is worth experiencing.  Going to the Eiffel Tower is a tourist experience in and of itself and going to the top can seem expensive and like its a tourist thing that you don't want to do.  First off, the view is incredible and it's the best way to see the city, hands down.  You see EVERYTHING, literally!

It is a mere €17 for adults, you check check here for pricing for admission.  Getting to the top is a long elevator ride, but once you get there, there is a bar with champagne for sale for not a whole lot.  It is a interesting experience to stand atop one of the tallest points in the world, sipping a glass of champagne looking out over one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

2. Seeing the interior of the Colosseum

Some may think this is more historical than tourist, but you should know that then interior off the Colosseum of a site to behold. I was not prepared for the site of the Colosseum and I thought that this would be a good candidate for this article.

The floor no longer exists in the Colosseum.  The floor has been eroded away and has left only the chambers below to be viewed by the public.  I first went to Il Colosseo in 2008 and did not return until 2015.  When I was there in 2015, the person I was traveling with had never been there before.  Don't look! I told them.  Wait until we are at the top!

We got to a point where it was appropriate and I told them to look out and the reaction was totally worth it.  I did not know the floor was gone, but some people do. He did, but he enjoyed the spectacle nonetheless.

When you make it to the second level, you walk past the em-battlements to an open space and look down.  What do you see, but a series of catacombs that look like a maze in the bottom of one of the largest and oldest structures ever built.  Truly breathtaking, I recommend it.

3. Guinness Brewery Tour

Trust me when I say, if nothing else, the beer at the end is worth it!  When my mother, my sister, and I went to Dublin, we partook in the joy that was a tour of the Dublin Brewery.  There is a pint of Guinness included in the price of admission.  The cool ambiance, the laid back atmosphere, and the free pint are worth this tourist trap, all day long!

The view form the bar upstairs is amazing and there are little signs on the glass explaining what you are looking at in any direction at the city.  The horses lined outside, the smell of hops along the way, the wishing well, and the beautiful signs are all great reasons to visit this one.  Trust me.

4. Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras, overall is a tourist trap in many ways, but I'm here to tell you that it is an experience.  I grew  up there, yes, but I can admit that it is a trap.  Hotels are typically overpriced, parking rates are hiked, everything else is hiked... it's really a tourist thing all day long.  However, the locals enjoy it to a certain extent, too.  I would say that this is one is a tourist trap that's worth it.

Book your hotel in advance(like, a year in advance), figure out the cheapest way there, and stay as close to Canal St. as you can.. you know, the basics.  Mardi Gras is such a great time and it's worth going to at least once in your life.  I'd say that this is THE tourist trap to get involved in and to enjoy at any age in your life.  I will warn that if you aren't at least 18, it will be less fun, but fun nonetheless.

5. The Bean

Chicago, Illinois is known for many things.  Pizza, Baseball, river cruises, you know, Chicago.  But, I'm here to tell you that Millennium Park in central downtown Chicago which houses "the Bean" is a sight worth seeing.  The Bean is an art piece that was built in February 2004.  This structure is quite impressive.  So shiny, so clean,  so round.

Taking pictures from different angles in the reflection is fun and exciting and it makes for a source of entertainment whenever you visit.  Worth it.

I hope that you partake in these 5 tourist traps and enjoy your time there!

Thanks, y'all!
