Almost Hopeless in Switzerland

Almost Hopeless in Switzerland

In Interlaken, Switzerland, we found ourselves searching in the rain for a place to stay, With no Wi-Fi to speak of and a premium rate for data usage, we walked.

This is a wealthy city and we were criticized a couple of times for wandering wet with our backpacks, walking into 5 star hotels asking about prices. Almost everyone recommended a hostel to go to. Gee, thanks.

My mom went into one particular place, expecting to be shot down again when, to our surprise, a lovely woman at Hotel du Nord was very excited to give us a room. It was more than we wanted to pay, but not overly extravagant, so we agreed and booked the room. She was so relieved that we were her last booking, she even gave is a little discount.

She showed us to our room and gave us free bus passes to wander the town. Switzerland is great for this. Some hotels in Geneva also gave out transit passes. This room was amazing, apart from a delightful little detail. If you care to read about that fun time, just check out my other blog post Visible Relief. It was a good thing my roommate and I are related.

We had a balcony with a gorgeous view of the mountains. Misty and snow-capped, they were a sight to behold. We ambled around town to find nearly everything closed except a pizza place. The pizza was delicious, the wine was even better, and the view was incredible. We should have looked deeper into the events the weekend we were there. There was a huge snowboarding event going on in the mountains. That's why all the hotels were booked and the shops closed. Regardless, it was a quaint town, and I mean that in the best way. Definitely worth a visit again. After our brief evening we retired in our beautiful discounted room, but that wasn't all of it. In the morning, we had breakfast and left for more travels, but before we did, the young man at the counter not only gave us directions to the train station, but also a map and little bottles of water for our journey. Overall fantastic stay and wonderful people. It's never hopeless.

I hope you enjoyed this story and keep reading on find more. Travel is where you find yourself and your relationship to others. Regardless of destination, you know yourself better when you push your boundaries.

Thanks, y'all!
