Getting the Best Price for Tours

As with any good sale, DON'T BE AFRAID TO WALK AWAY!

While there are some places you may not want to argue too much, in places like the Vatican Museum, walking tours of Prague, the Louvre, and more, there are cheaper ways to get shown around than the first price anyone tells you.  Don't be afraid to ask a vendor what their price is, even if you have to cut him off from the long explanation of all that is included.  Ask nicely, but firmly what the deal is.  Remember that, just in case this guy has the best price, you don't want to be an ass right away.  Usually, they'll tell you all of the specifics first, but once you've been somewhere and researched what should be in the tour, then you know how to haggle.

Ask firmly for the price.  Say no.  Walk away.  He will shout after you with a "better" deal, say no thank you.  Keep walking.  Repeat until desired price is met.  I realize that knowing what that is ahead of time can be difficult.  Here's a tip, if it's written on a laminated hand out, then you will see an "adult" price, a "youth" price, and a "student" price.  Often times, "student" is as good a rate as they can get you.  If they agree to the "student" and it is in your budget, then go for it.  Sometimes you can still get them lower.  When you visit places like Italy or China, you must bone up on your haggling skills.

Do a little research before you go on what the most recent prices are for the tours you're looking to do.  Ask around when you are in the city before you go, see what other people are paying.  Check the common review websites and know what you should be haggling ahead of time.

I hope you enjoyed this quick tip.

Thanks, y'all!
