Italy 2017: Day 11

Italy 2017: Day 11

Good morning. Today is the long journey home. We're sitting in Charles de Gaulle airport, enjoying morning libations and a light breakfast. Mom had tea, I had a cappuccino. I have a newfound love of cappuccino. I kept getting it on trains and such because it was strong, but I'm here to tell you, I've developed quite the taste for it. I will be searching out quality cappuccino in the South Bend area.

This airport is really nice. We discussed coming here late last night and just hanging out. We thought we had an earlier flight than we do, so we were thinking to save on the hotel and just head straight here. Well, I'm here to tell you, this is an airport you could spend the night in. It's beautiful, comfy, Wi-Fi enabled, and has electric plugs everywhere. This, people, is an airport you can sleep comfortably in.

Security was a snap and so was passport control, it took us all of twenty minutes to get from the beginning of the terminal to the gate.   We're thinking that's because of the early hour. We got to the airport at 5:45 am on a Sunday, election day, at that. Though there are elevated security measures in the city, we seem to be unaffected as of yet. (Please don't jinx myself, please don't jinx myself)

From here, we fly to Atlanta and hit customs, won't that be fun. Perhaps we'll get stamps this time. We didn't last year coming back from Ireland, but I have gotten one returning through JFK once. So, no telling. Mom and I both have later flights, so provided we get through with enough time to spare, we will try to fly standby on earlier ones. Fingers crossed.

Big note to remember here: when in from international waters through Atlanta, there is an additional security checkpoint between terminal F and domestic flights. They will (and did) make you throw away any liquids in excess of 4 oz. I had a French coke as a souvenir and had to pitch it. I was not happy.

We both ended up hopping on earlier flights out, fortunately. We made it back to our respective states and passed out after a long day's haul. The end of a journey is here and it's time to sign off. Sincere thanks to those who followed our trip, we appreciated it along the way.

Thanks, y'all!
