Booking for Morocco: Part II

Booking for Morocco: Part II

It seems the world has one topic on its mind and tongue. It’s everywhere, we’re all impacted. Many are on lock down and many more are nervous. If you have missed the beginning of this post series, start with the Planning Morocco post and work your way through. If you are caught up, then you know that we were looking to visit a new country on a new continent and see something amazing. Coronavirus had a different plan for us.

I’m not writing this post to capitalize on people’s pain. I’m not writing it to get more search hits from using the word “coronavirus”. I’m not writing this to add more sludge to the internet world of drama and fear. I’m writing this to tell all of you that had a trip cancelled that it happens sometimes.

Initially, we were planning on spending 2 days in Spain, 4 days in Morocco, and 5 days in Italy. We had all of our major flights booked. You can see those bookings and that process in the Part I post. When the number of cases in Italy was spiking, RyanAir was kind enough to cancel our flight from Morocco to Pisa. We decided that we would bypass Italy in our trip and spend the remainder of our time in Spain to avoid adding to the spread of the virus.

A few days go by and RyanAir emails us again. They were kind enough to cancel our flight from Spain to Morocco. We decided to spend more time in Spain then and possibly head up into France for a few days. I’ve always wanted to see Andorra anyway, so this would still work out.

A few days later, President Trump placed a travel ban on all incoming flights from Europe. I support the decision, but I couldn’t go on my trip anymore. All things considered, this was the smart move and I appreciate the insistence. I haven’t traveled outside of the country in so long, I’m beginning to go stir crazy.

With this new travel situation, we were able to get all of our money back for the flights to Spain and back from Rome. American Airlines was very helpful in this. The only caveat was that I had to wait until 72 hours before we were supposed to fly out to call them. Understandably, their phone lines are incredibly busy and if you have an upcoming flight that you need to modify due to this pandemic, please wait until you are within this window and be prepared to wait a long time. Side note: American does a call back thing where they can call YOU back when they are available. This is very convenient.

Long story short, sometimes travel plans change. Whether you mean it to or not. So, remember to go with the flow. Until next time, y’all stay safe. Wash your hands, don’t touch your face.

Thanks, y’all!
