6 Hours in Paris

6 Hours in Paris

Selfies in front of the Eiffel Tower. I guess that is one downside to traveling alone, you're stuck with selfies, unless you ask for help!

I realize that Paris is a world in and of itself and that you should give it it's due when it comes to spending time and attention, but I'm here to tell you that 6 hours in Paris was enough for me.

I got off the train in Paris and gave great debate to whether or not I should purchase the very expensive day transit pass there for twenty Euro.  I decided that it would be the best way to get around and went with it.  It turned out to be well worth it.  I saw nearly everything I wanted to see in a very quick span of time.

Delicious french pastries.... they call my name in the night. I can't wait to get back to France just for the bread!

My favorite thing about the Eiffel Tower is that I couldn't get a picture with both the base and the spire in focus at the same time. That's how massive this thing is!

Admittedly, I did not get the local experience or any of the in-depth hidden treasures of the old Paris, but I did get enough of a taste of Paris to know that I probably don't need to spend a great deal of time there.  It's not that the people were mean or the streets were dirty.  I hear those complaints about a lot of places.  It just that Paris didn't really do it for me.  Sorry, Paris.

It is a beautiful city and there is always something amazing to look at, no doubt.  But, my advice on this little treasure is if you are more interested in other places on your whirlwind tour of Europe, just know that unless you plan on going into the Louvre, you don't need to spend too long here.

In my quick trip, I managed to see the Eiffel Tower (did not go to the top on this trip, though), Notre Dame, saw the outside of the Louvre, the Champs Elysee, the Arc de Triumph, and even enjoyed a croissant along the way.

When I went to the Eiffel Tower, I couldn't believe the size and magnificence of it.  I realize you hear that from everyone, but it is truly one of those things you simply must see for yourself to truly appreciate the work that went into it.  Know that the stairs are a 5 Euro entry fee and the elevator to go to the top is 20 Euros.  There is champagne for sale at the top in cute little plastic flutes and you can see the entirety of the city.  You are also allowed to stay up there pretty much as long as you can stand it and it's a truly breathtaking view.  To be completely honest though, I was satisfied just walking under it and could have saved the money on the next trip.

If you continue along the river, you will come across so many walking bridges and driving bridges that are fun just to stand on and watch the river tour boats float beneath you.  I did the unthinkable on my first trip there and clamped a love lock on one of the bridges.  Then, when I went back on my honeymoon, my new husband and I went to take it back.

We tried to unlock it, but it was rusted shut.  We were going to find a way to cut it off, but there were other locks hooked to it, so we figured we'd just leave it.  But, it was neat that we were able to find it again.

I continued on along the river until I came the Notre Dame Cathedral.  This was my favorite part of Paris.  I loved this church for obvious reasons.  Everything is so ornate and so breathtaking.  I didn't know that the cathedral took so long to build and that it had so many different faces over time, but it's gorgeous still.

Notre Dame Cathedral, photos will never do this building justice.

Going on a weekday, I had very little wait time to get in and entry was free, so that was a big plus.  I saw outside a group of young girls holding their hands out feeding the birds in the garden in front of the church.  I don't know why, but that stuck with me and to this day, it's one of my favorite things about Paris.

All in all, I didn't do much there, ate some bread, enjoyed some hot chocolate (an absolute MUST) and took in the sights.  You'd be surprised how much you can see in a short time.
